Can you still recover your TV Time data?
Not from TV Time. Whip Media closed the service on July 15, 2026, took tvtime.com offline and said account data would be deleted. No app, extension or service can read a deleted account, and Refract cannot either. This page is about what can still be saved: any file downloaded before that date, including the ones made with our TV Time Out extension, and everything else that recorded what you watched.
What TV Time Out was, and why it stopped working
TV Time Out was Refract's Chrome extension. Logged in to tvtime.com, you clicked its icon and it saved your shows, episode progress, movies and lists as JSON files named tvtime-series-<date>.json, tvtime-movies-<date>.json and tvtime-lists-<date>.json. It read the website inside your own browser, so the day the website went offline it had nothing left to read. TV Time Exporter, TV Time Liberator and the browser data-extractor extensions worked the same way and stopped the same day.
The files they produced are not affected. If one of them is somewhere on a disk, a phone or in an email, Refract imports it today.
Step 1: find out whether you already have a file
Most people who exported in July no longer remember where the file went. Check, in this order:
- Your downloads folder, on every computer you used in July 2026. Search for tvtime: TV Time Out files start with that word, extractor CSVs usually do too.
- Your email. The GDPR export arrived as a download link from TV Time; search for "TV Time", "Whip Media" or "data export". The ZIP may still be attached, or saved next to the message.
- Cloud and chat. Google Drive, iCloud Drive, Dropbox, and the "saved messages" of WhatsApp or Telegram, if you sent the file to yourself to get it onto your phone.
- Another tracker. If you imported the file into Bingers, Trakt, Simkl or any other app after the shutdown, that app holds the history now. Export from there; Refract reads all of them.
Step 2: you have a file. Refract reads every TV Time format
- The GDPR data export, a ZIP of CSV or JSON files from the July 2026 export window.
- The in-app "Other" export, the smaller file generated from TV Time's settings.
- TV Time Out files: tvtime-series, tvtime-movies and tvtime-lists JSON, one or all of them.
- Other exporter extensions (TV Time Exporter, TV Time Liberator and similar) and the single CSV of a browser data extractor.
Open Refract, go to Settings → Import → TV Time and pick the file as it is, ZIP included; Refract reads the content to tell the formats apart. Shows, episode progress, movies, ratings, lists and the day you watched each episode come across, and one tap undoes the whole import if the summary looks wrong. The step-by-step version is in the TV Time import guide.
Step 3: no file. Rebuild from what still records your viewing
- Netflix viewing activity. Netflix still lets you download your complete viewing history as a CSV from your account page, with dates. Refract imports it episode by episode: Netflix import guide.
- Any other tracker you ever used: Trakt, Simkl, Letterboxd, IMDb, JustWatch, or one of the apps people tried after July. Every one has an import guide.
- Your streaming services' history pages. Prime Video, Disney+, Max and the others show what you watched; use them as a checklist.
- From memory. Search a show in Refract, open a season, mark the whole season watched in two taps. Most people rebuild their main shows in an evening; the calendar and new-episode reminders work from the first show you add.
Not sure what you have? Ask us
If a file refuses to import, or you found something and cannot tell what it is, ask on Refract's Discord. Most of Refract's members arrived from TV Time in July 2026, we made TV Time Out for that move, and we answer there ourselves. The support page has the email address if you prefer.
One warning
The history lived on Whip Media's servers, and Whip Media said it would be deleted. Nobody outside the company ever had access to it. If a site or a seller offers to recover your TV Time account for a fee, it cannot be done; keep your money.
What you get after the move
Refract tracks TV shows, movies and anime episode by episode, with a calendar of what airs next, reminders, stats, lists and profiles, free and without ads. It is where a large part of the former TV Time community landed, with the import tools built for that migration. The TV Time replacement guide compares it with Bingers, Trakt, Simkl and Serializd if you want to look around first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I still recover my TV Time data?
Not from TV Time. Whip Media closed the service on July 15, 2026, took tvtime.com offline and said account data would be deleted. No app or service can read a deleted account, Refract included. What can still be saved is any export file downloaded before that date, plus everything else that recorded what you watched, such as a Netflix viewing-activity file or another tracker you used since.
Does the TV Time Out extension still work?
No. TV Time Out was Refract's Chrome extension; it read your TV Time history from tvtime.com inside your logged-in browser and saved it as JSON files. It needed the website to exist, so it stopped working the day tvtime.com went offline. The same applies to TV Time Exporter, TV Time Liberator and the browser data-extractor extensions. The files any of them produced still import into Refract.
Which TV Time files does Refract read?
The GDPR data export (a ZIP of CSV or JSON files from the July 2026 export window), the in-app 'Other' export, the tvtime-series, tvtime-movies and tvtime-lists JSON files saved by TV Time Out, files from other exporter extensions, and the single CSV produced by a browser data extractor. Upload the file as it is; Refract reads the content to work out which format it is.
Can I get my GDPR export from TV Time now?
No. The export window closed with the service on July 15, 2026. If you asked for one before that date, the download link arrived by email, so search your inbox for 'TV Time' or 'Whip Media' before giving up.
I moved to Bingers, Trakt or another app after the shutdown. Can I bring that history to Refract?
Yes. If you imported your TV Time file into another tracker in July, that app now holds the history. Export from there and import into Refract: Bingers, Trakt, Simkl, Letterboxd, IMDb, JustWatch, Sofa Time, Movie Paradise, Showly, Muvy and Suite TV are all supported, each with its own guide.
Can someone recover my TV Time account for me?
No. The data lived on Whip Media's servers and Whip Media said it would be deleted. Nobody outside the company ever had access to it, and no paid or free service can get it back. If an offer claims otherwise, keep your money.
Is Refract free?
Yes. Tracking, imports, stats, lists and social features are free with no ads and no paywall. Optional cosmetic supporter tiers (badges, frames, name styles) exist for people who want to support the project; they unlock nothing in the tracker itself.
Bring what you still have to Refract
Free, no ads, on iOS and Android. Every import can be undone in one tap.
