Import a TV Time Export Into Refract After the Shutdown
TV Time shut down on July 15, 2026, and its export tool closed with it. If you saved an export before that date, Refract reads both formats TV Time produced, the GDPR data export ZIP and the in-app "Other" export, and files saved with the TV Time Out extension are the same thing. If you never exported, the history cannot be recovered from Whip Media; the TV Time replacement guide lists the other sources Refract can rebuild from.
Step 1: get your TV Time export
You will end up with: the TV Time GDPR ZIP or the in-app export you saved before July 15, 2026.
- Find the file you saved before the shutdown: in your downloads, your email (the GDPR export arrived by email link) or wherever the TV Time Out extension stored it.
- Put it on the phone where Refract is installed. There is no need to unpack the ZIP.
Step 2: import it into Refract
- Install Refract on iOS or Android (links at the bottom of this page) and sign in.
- Open Settings → Import → TV Time and pick the file.
- Review the preview: it shows what the file contains, category by category, and lets you untick anything you do not want.
- Start the import. It runs in the background with a progress bar; you can leave the app.
- Read the completion summary. Check the completion screen for the import's undo option and its scope.
What comes across
- Shows with episode progress and the exact day you watched each episode.
- Movies with their watch dates.
- Ratings and comments, where the export contains them.
- Lists and watchlist, as plan-to-watch.
What does not, or only partly
- No new export can be requested: the service and its data are gone.
- Files from third-party TV Time scrapers other than TV Time Out may not be recognised; the report tells you if nothing readable was found.
Frequently asked questions
I have no TV Time file. What are my options?
Rebuild from what you still have: a Netflix viewing-history file, a Trakt, Simkl, Letterboxd or IMDb export, or a Bingers, Sofa Time, Movie Paradise, Showly, Muvy or SuiteTV export if you tried one of those apps after the shutdown. Each has its own guide on this site. For shows you remember, search them and mark whole seasons watched in two taps.
Will the import overwrite what I already have in Refract?
Imports merge data into your library. Review the source-specific preview and completion summary to see what is included.
Is importing free?
Yes. Imports, like the rest of the tracker, are free with no ads and no paywall. Refract Pro is optional cosmetic supporter tiers only.
Can I undo this import?
Check the completion screen for the import's undo option and its scope.
