Import Letterboxd Into Refract: Films, Ratings, Reviews, Watchlist

Letterboxd lets you export everything in one ZIP from its settings, and Refract reads that file as is: watched films with their dates, ratings, reviews, your watchlist and, if you want, your lists recreated as Refract lists. The export takes a minute; the import runs in the background.

Step 1: get your Letterboxd export

You will end up with: letterboxd-[username]-[date].zip.

  1. In a browser, sign in to letterboxd.com and open Settings.
  2. Open the Data tab (or "Import & Export") and tap "Export your data".
  3. Confirm with "Export Data" in the popup; the ZIP downloads to your device.
  4. Transfer it to the phone where Refract is installed if you exported from a computer.

Step 2: import it into Refract

  1. Install Refract on iOS or Android (links at the bottom of this page) and sign in.
  2. Open Settings → Import → Letterboxd and pick the file.
  3. Review the preview: it shows what the file contains, category by category, and lets you untick anything you do not want.
  4. Start the import. It runs in the background with a progress bar; you can leave the app.
  5. Read the completion summary. Check the completion screen for the import's undo option and its scope.
